2007 Kids Tournament

The 2007 Kids Tournament was a great success. Over 90 students, ranging from white belt to brown belt, and ages 5 to 14, competed in this year’s tournament. The students received some word of encouragement before the competition began.

Students challenged themselves to be courageous and do their personal best in front of over 300 spectators.

Upon entering the ring each student bowed to the judges as a sign of respect and introduced themselves.

The students were scored on their effort (strong, low positions), how well the payed attention in class to the finer points or detail of their form and lastly in overall impression. Overall impression took into account speed, power and sportsmanship. In many cases, the competition was so close that each judge had a different competitor in 1st place. All of the students had a successful day.

We are very proud of how our students competed. They showed great courage demonstrating their forms. We define courage as," challenging yourself to do difficult things that are good." Through their hard work practicing for the tournament, students found the confidence to be bold and courageous. The students competed with different forms such as: Dragon Form

Dragon Form

Intermediate Longfist Form

and Double Num Chucks

As a school, we are most proud of the way the students "competed." The students showed great sportmanship in encouraging each student to do their best. The tournament was not about who won 1st place or 2nd place, instead it was an opportunity for all students to improve and have fun in the process. In the months leading up to the tournament, all of the students worked hard to improve in their strength, flexibility, focus and determination to do their best. We are excited about the routines that the students performed, however, we are most proud of the respect and camaraderie shown by all of the students toward one another and the judges. Thank you to all of the students, judges, instructors, parents, friends and family members who made the 2007 Tournament a great day for everyone. Every student who participated in the tournament grew in some way and thus each student earned the trophy they received.
